Hymnus Summer festival

Today we had our annual Hymnus choir summer festival again. As usual we started this day with a church service in the morning, where all singers were participating, even the small one, who are not older than 7 or 8 years. And afterwards we had the summer festival, where all the Hymnus family could exchange stories, the small ones were playing soccer or were just hanging around.
This time I got my "golden needle" which gets every singers who sings more than ten years in the Hymnus choir. And I joined this
choir ten years ago ;)

School Concert

This evening there was the annual school summer concert, where the school orchestra, the school choir, the teacher and parents choir and the big band were performing.
With the school choir we sung songs from the movie "Pearl Harbour" and from the musical "Phantom of the Opera" and "The Lion King". It was a real great concert and we all gave our best.
It was my last concert with the school choir, because as you all know I am done with school now, so I won't sing in this choir anymore, which is kind of sad ;)

Prom and graduation Night

Yesterday we had our prom and graduation night. It was a really great and unforgettable evening, but although the last time I have seen all my classmates together. From now on everyone is going his or her own way. Some will leave the country for a year as I do, others will do their civilian service or will go studying right away. It is hard to say goodbye from them with whom I have gone to school for the past 13 years. I still cannot believe it, that school is over now. From now on it is my own decision how I will move on ;)

The Prom and graduation night was our officially saying goodbye from school. Our Senior motto was "Abi of Fame: Celebrities are gong, but the fans are staying", (Abi is the german high school diploma), which means
that we seniors will leave school, but our fans (teachers and the other pupils) will remain at school ;)
Because of this Seniro Motto we made the event as an oscar award and therefore a few teachers got their own oscars for different categories.
Furthermore some of my classmates were performance a dance,
the Abi-band was singing, a few vidoes were shown and lots more.

All in all it couldn't have been any better and it was a legendary evening with lots of shared memories.

Internship

The last six weeks I did an technical internship. After my au pair year I want tostudy aerospace engineering at the university in Stuttgart and one requirement is this internship. The internship was really exhausting, because firstly it started at 7.00am, so I had to get up at 5.30am every day. And furthermore it was a lot of technical work without using any machine ;) The first two weeks I had to file, saw, hammer and to drill. The next two weeks I got a instruction how to use the turning center and the milling machine, with which I work for two weeks. And the last two weeks I learned how to weld. Welding was one the hardest part, because firstly it was not as easy as it sounds and secondly it gets so hot when you are welding. I felt like that I have my own private (weld) sauna - but I had to keep my protective clothes on;)But all in all it was a really interesting internship where I learned a lot and where I could do things I would never do at home ;)

Gerlingen goes down

This weekend we had heavy rains in Gerlingen. It rained that much that many houses had water in the cellar, but the city hall was hit the most as you can see in the video. The hole basement and floor was under water. We did not even had electricity for a few hours.
It was the worst thunder storm for years. I cannot think of a worst one.

AFS Summer Party

The AFS summer party took place on the same BBQ area as last year. This party is like the end of the AFS year, because the AFS hoopees (these student who will spend a year as an exchange year somewhere else) will leave in the next few weeks for their exchange year and at the same time the exchange students, who came from all over the world, will leave Germany.
So this AFS summer party was the last chance to talk to the students before they will leave. But on the other hand it was great to talk to the german exchange students who came back home a few days ago. Most of them went to the U.S. (as I did two years ago) and it was great to hear their stories and their experiences with their exchange country.
Although the weather was not that great, it rained a lot, we had a lot of fun and enjoyed this summer party. All in all it was really nice afternoon.

Happy Independence Day

I did not get the chance yet to celebrate the Independence Day in the U.S., because during my exchange year in the U.S. two years ago I left four days earlier ;( But next year I get the change to be there!

Visit from South Africa

Although the Fifa World Cup is taking place in South Africa, we had a visit from a choir from the university of Pretoria, South Africa. The choir gave a concert here in Gerlingen, which was a really great one. The performance was awesome and the choir just sang perfect. It was just unbelievable how good they were singing. I enjoyed the concert so much, and I think it was the best what I have heard so far ;)
The young singers from the youth choir were staying in host family for one day. Two of them were staying with us and I am really glad that I got the chance to meet them. Today they left Gerlingen again and tomorrow they will fly back home. But they told us, that they will keep one's fingers crossed for Germany, which are playing tomorrow ;)
